Dwell’s Delicious Drink Discovery
And it’s a Devon brand making waves with its very special sparkling water!
If you’ve been keeping an eye on our socials, you’ll know that last week, we shared our latest exciting foodie find – the brilliant Bow Deli, where the daily menu is as tasty as the array of goodies available to stock up your shelves at home (you can read more about this lovely new spot here).
It’s one of those great little stores, like a sweet-shop for grown-ups, full of treats with catchy names and ‘stop-and-look-at-me’ branding. And among them, our latest (not guilty) pleasure, the joy in a can that is Jamu Wild Water. Having since discovered this is a Devon-based team, we couldn’t not tell you a bit about it; plus, on deeper delving, it turns out there’s quite a bit to say…
So, rewind to the moment when I absent-mindedly plucked a can of Sparkling Blood Orange from the fridge; I’ll admit that at the time I was simply after a fizzy thirst-quencher, the branding was cute and that was as far as my thought process went.
But while I was paying, a little scan of the small-print told me that this is potentially a drink we could all do with buying into. Here’s a few reasons why:
Firstly, Jamu Wild Water is a 100% naturally flavoured, low calorie sparkling water, so all three of the flavours, Raspberry, Lemon and Blood Orange contain no sugar or artificial sweeteners – big tick! I’ve tried all three now, by the way and, while Blood Orange remains my favourite it’s a very close call.
But the really exciting part is that each can actually contains a dose of prebiotic fibre and is full of useful botanicals. What that means is that guzzling one of these not only tastes very good, it’s a gut-friendly, immune-boosting, much healthier way to hydrate.
Now, I’ve tried my fair share of healthy drinks over the past few years; the trouble is, they always seem to sacrifice something in return for all the health benefits – namely the taste.
Not here, reader! The ingredients list across the range might read like the inventory of a health-food store, but you wouldn’t know on first – or last – sip. From prebiotic plant fibres chicory root inulin and marshmallow root, to immune-boosting echinacea and plants rich in vitamins and antioxidants like nettle, dandelion and elderberry, you can’t help feeling good and a little bit smug sipping on one of these. Plus, these are all British-grown botanicals.
Which leads us to the loveliest part of all of this - the ethos behind the brand. A deep-dive reveals that this isn’t a team with a sole mission to make a healthy drink that tastes nice; it’s a team with some impressive values around rewilding.
And while the product itself is thoughtfully produced – plastic-free, recyclable packaging – and the company is on the journey to achieving B-Corp Certification, there’s also an emphasis on inspiring young people to get back outside in nature, which can only be a good thing, right?
As for my young person, it’s worth saying that the little Dweller absolutely loved this drink too, which, as any parent faced with a daily battle to get their child to drink will know, is a big win! And to the grown-ups, it’s also worth saying that we think this makes a gorgeous alcohol-free alternative if you’re on a no-booze mission. Bring on the summer barbecues!
So that’s our PSA over and our gift to you this week. Go get your hands on a can and try it for yourself. You’ll be doing your gut some good and showing a Devon business some love while you’re at it.
Cheers to that!
