Grow a Greenhouse!

That’s exactly what our favourite green-fingered Devon Dweller did. And with Spring almost here, we think Holly will inspire you to get growing, too!

Now that we can almost smell a new season in the air, there’s someone we’d like you to meet. The eagle-eyed among you may have spotted her recently over on our Instagram, where we shared a reel detailing her gorgeous spring planter creation. Did you see it? Take a peek here (and then come straight back!) It’s so lovely and simple - the best ideas always are!

That Spring Tide Glow Bowl epitomises everything we like about Hols at This Home Grows. With a passion for the pre-loved and an ethos that’s focused around growth - in whatever form it takes - it shows how something that’s seemingly had its moment can be brought back to life, all the while nurturing something new. And we’re fully on board with that!

But while we love how the little things can spark spring joy (and that you don’t necessarily even need a garden), Hols hasn’t been afraid to take on some bigger projects as she and her little family grow their beautiful home. And one in particular caught our eye…

Would you take a look at THIS beauty!

It’s a shiny new greenhouse, we hear you say. Well, shiny, yes, but while it looks like it’s brand new, it’s actually a pre-loved find that’s been on quite the journey. Our favourite transformation to date, Hols has been sharing with us how she and her husband, with a little bit of vision and graft managed to get this greenhouse looking gorgeous.

Why did you decide to makeover the greenhouse?

I’m all about giving things another chance to grow, whether it’s a space, a piece of furniture, or even ourselves. We dreamed of a magazine-worthy greenhouse, but our budget had other ideas. This little pre-loved gem had so much untapped potential, and giving it our This Home Grows touch felt just right.

How did you acquire the greenhouse?

It was a lucky “free to a good home” find! We’re its fourth owners and it came with all the glass intact and a potting bench needing a little love.

What were the first steps in the makeover?

We started with repairs to make it safe, then gave it fresh roots with reclaimed slabs from my aunties garden.

How did you enhance its design?

We added wooden insets around the base and painted the frame to bring it all together. A bit of This Home Grows magic.

What’s the overall vibe of the greenhouse now?

It’s our little growing haven - practical yet full of charm. It brings us so much joy, a place to nurture our seedlings and ourselves.

“When we give something another chance, we give our room home to grow”.

For Hols, this isn’t just a project to ‘tick off the list’ and move on to the next one; in fact, this greenhouse’s new lease of life is just getting going. “Our greenhouse journey is all about giving something another chance to bloom. It’s a garden project that takes time, but the rewards are worth it. This will be our fifth growing season, and it feels extra special knowing we’ve breathed new life into something pre-loved, and upcycled.

“Every year, we add something new. Last year it was the gingham curtain. Stay tuned to see what’s coming this season.

I’m always excited for the spring clean, getting everything ready for another year of growing.

With spring just around the corner, I’m looking forward to the familiar scents of ripening tomatoes, the sight of our seedlings getting taller, and the promise of fresh blooms and veggies”.

We’re a little bit in awe of how Hols has managed to create something that’s timeless, practical and will prove to be such a happy hub in years to come (all on a budget, too!). And, she tells us, it’s the perfect spot for her to share her upcoming Preloved Picks series, where she’ll be showing how secondhand treasures help grow a home with heart.

Now that, we don’t want to miss. Keep in the know, by following her, below...
