Where I Dwell

We’ve been at it again.

Profile shot of Sarah Chiswell interior designer

Not ones to pass up the chance to tap up the locals, we’ve been chinwagging with the gorgeous Sarah of Sarah Chiswell Interiors fame.

You know, finding out what she gets up to when she’s out and about in Devon. Some might call it stalking, we prefer to call it research.

We’ve bookmarked a couple of ideas from this quickfire Q&A, so we reckon you might too.

At a loose end? This one’s for you.

Plymouth Hoe and Lido with plymouth sound against blue skies

Favourite place to blow away the cobwebs…

There’s nothing better than a stroll on Plymouth’s Hoe.

The place I like to head for coffee…

Pier One, or Ocean View at The Dome for a flat white with a view across Plymouth Sound.  If I’m in a rush, it’s nearby Rhubarb & Mustard for a takeaway.

My go-to when I need to buy someone a gift…

Totnes is a great place for something a bit different and rustic.  I love the shop Folk Interiors. I love Ashburton too, for some vintage finds.

When I want to treat myself, I….

Grab a massage from Adore beauty [in Plymouth] in-between visiting clients and taxi-ing the kids around.

Pig At Combe Hotel exterior against blue skies

For a restorative night away, my favourite place to retreat to is…

I love the unfussy, boho style of The Pig at Combe. I’m a real foodie, so love to stroll around their kitchen gardens and taste their 25-mile menu.

My favourite beach is…

South Milton Sands holds a special place in my heart. I’ve been visiting since I was a child and now I bring the kids there.  It evokes nostalgia, reminding me of the days when my dad would tie our dinghy to a long rope and let my sister and I drift on the water.

Coast or Moors?

Coast – I always feel drawn to the sea.

A local place on my list to try is…

The Mole Resort seems like an excellent destination for the kids. It looks like there’s plenty of entertainment to keep them busy and I might even get a few minutes to unwind in the hot tub!

Beach at salcombe on a sunny day with boats in distance

The most underrated spot in Devon is…

I’m always amazed by the hundreds of beaches and coves that Devon has to offer and Sunny Cove directly across from Salcombe estuary doesn’t disappoint. It’s a good dog-friendly beach too.  Perfect for my pooch.

This year, I tried something new:

I bought my 13 year-old a driving lesson for her birthday. I didn’t realise they would make me sit in the back of the car during the lesson!

Next year, I want to…

Try and spend more time in the garden. It is my sanctuary and I’ve neglected it whilst my business grows. So deadheading a nicely pruned hedge is desperately required!

If she’s this good with her spare time, imagine what she could do with you interiors?!

Go on, check out her ‘gram!
