Where I Dwell

Where does the BAFTA nominated Creative Director of a super-successful Devon TV production company spend her down time? Wouldn’t you like to know…

Charlotte Davis of Rock Oyster Media

Fortunately, we’ve twisted the arm of Rock Oyster Media’s Charlotte Davis to reveal all. When she’s not dreaming up the next big TV format, or producing big names like Raymond Blanc and Gary Barlow, it’s beautiful Brixham that becomes her sanctuary. Save this one, for your next South Devon sojourn…

Brixham breakwater in Devon

Favourite place to blow away the cobwebs

a couple of lengths of the Brixham Breakwater. It’s exactly a mile there and back, so you can get most of your steps done whilst watching the fishing boats come in and out, the rowers, the hardy swimming ladies in bobble hats…and end with a coffee from the Bistro.

The place I like to head for coffee…

Brixham is awash with lovely coffee spots. Bay Coffee for the warm welcome on the harbour, from local legend John. The Guardhouse Café on Berry Head [pictured] for views and delicious food. Fishcombe Cove for the feel of being somewhere in southern Greece!

My go-to for gifts is…

a fine bottle of wine from the Wine Loft.

When I want to treat myself, I…

walk through the woods down to the front, Taylor Swift in my ears, and have a crab sandwich. Then get the bus back up the hill….

Broadsands beach in South Devon

Favourite beach…

It’s actually Broadsands, which is just along the way at Churston. The water is ALWAYS Blue Flag, the sand is warm, the steam train toots past on the Viaduct and you can park. What else do you need?

Coast or moors?

Coast all the way.

Gerry's Cottage in Brixham

For a restorative night away, my favourite place to stay is…

a friend’s house in Bristol where I can put the world to rights, and they can tell me how marvellous I am. Alternatively hire my holiday cottage – Gerry’s Cottage [pictured] – the sweetest little house just seconds from town but a gorgeous hideaway.

Paignton coastline beach huts

A local place on my list to try…

I want to expand my knowledge of local coves and beaches – Torbay has so many and there are some lovely ones in Torquay that I want to get to know

Torquay harbour

Most underrated spot in Devon…

I’m gonna say Torbay in general. Torquay has beautiful architecture, Paignton is so family friendly for its pier, beaches and parks, and Brixham is the most perfect place in the UK.

Last year I tried something new…

The Let Them theory (if you know you know but it’s transformational)

This year I want to…

Get in the water past November.
