Down Tools, Take Five & Drink It All In!

Q: What do frothy coffees and foamy seas have in common?

A: More than you might imagine, actually.

Take a closer look and I’ll spill the beans…

Plymouth Hoe Coastline Mug

Figured it out yet?

Well, next time you’re shopping for homewares you can enjoy both from the humble mug, as beautifully illustrated by this magnificent caffeine guzzling vessel.

True, a cappuccino by the coast has long been a simple pleasure, but that’s not what I’m on about here.

You see, there’s more to this minimalist mug than meets the eye; that striking yet simple design is actually a stretch of our stunning coastline. And, living in Devon, there is plenty of it in both directions. Lucky us.

This clever creation is the work of local potter Rebecca Roberts. I first spotted her pieces in Plymouth, at one of the Royal William Yard’s seasonal Native Makers Markets and I was struck first by the prettiness and then by the genius. I mean, what a lovely idea for a gift, or to breathe new life into your own forlorn mug tree at home.

Bigbury & Burgh Island Vase

Burgh Island, Salcombe & Bantham Vases

And it’s not just limited to brews; the coastline collection extends to jugs and vases, designed to display mini buds, or bigger bunches. Perfect for the last of those cut flowers from the garden and incoming autumnal arrangements. Never did I see happier blooms!

You can take your pick from Rebecca’s own curation of local coastlines, or you can opt for your own personalised piece with a stretch that’s special to you - or a friend. Like me. Firestone Bay, since you’re interested.
