Fancy a Brew (and a work of art)?

Ahhh.  Nothing sets your head straight first thing in the morning quite like the whiff of a coffee on the go. But, for all the convenience and techie wizardry of the latest gadgets out there, I do love a bit of simplicity.

Especially when it’s this beautiful.

I mean, imagine this little creation dressing your shelves; is it art, does it have a purpose? Yes to both! You’ll be fielding ‘ooh, where’s that from?’ questions every time you have someone over for a brew. I’d bet beans on it.

Handcrafted local pottery

The answer, by the way, is that it’s the latest work of local potter Jane Lake, AKA queen of simplicity, functionality and beautiful textures.  Like all her lovely pieces (and by the way, there’s a whole range of homewares), the filter has been inspired by the colours and textures of the local landscape.

Handcrafted in stoneware and glazed in a simple white matte, copper oxide has then been added, giving that lovely greenish-brown hue.

Each bespoke filter has been designed as a one-cup, so perfect for a swift espresso, or a longer small cup, if espresso’s feel hardcore.

Either way, enough to fuel you for the day ahead.  Plus, it fits perfectly with one of Jane’s little cups, so you can slide one of those into your virtual basket while you’re at it.  Coming in at less than thirty quid for both, it’s an affordable treat and would make a great gift to someone who deserves it, too*.  Hint, hint…
